Antique Caucasian Kazak Rug, Origin: Caucasus, Circa: Early 20th Century – Born out of the Kazak’s ancient weaving traditions, this antique Caucasian Kazak carpet features a stunning assortment of octagonal burdock medallions and esoteric protection symbols rendered in a selection of pastel Neapolitan hues set over a blazing maraschino-red ground. Bold eight-sided burdock motifs with their characteristic rake-like appendages emblazon the field and sequester a series of secondary coffered compartments that contain double ram’s horns, decorative guls and amulets that are displayed like treasures. High-contrast running water motifs form protective guardbands that encircle the boldly decorated field alongside an archetypal Kazak blossom border that is filled with star-shaped flowers and interconnected vines.
