Antique Caucasian Karabagh Runner Rug, Country of Origin: Caucasus Circa Date: 1900  – This exquisite antique Caucasian carpet from the Karabagh region features an outstanding Lampa-style pattern consisting of multiple medallions, lozenges and octofoils arranged in a beautifully colored tower. This exemplary Lampa-style runner rug features brilliant Persianate medallions flanked by requisite birds, which are synonymous with this decorative, colorful carpet type. Persianate arabesques are creatively re-imagined in the decorative medallions and fluid multi-part borders. These lavish designs, creamy accents and blushing cerise details offset the emerald field, which evokes the region’s pastoral highlands. This remarkable Karabagh carpet combines traditional Persianate patterns with whimsical folk-art influences that embody the tribal side of these beloved designs. These rustic details  on this antique rug are revealed in the protective crenellated fences that line the edges of the field and the blushing rose-hip borders that are reminiscent of the region’s famous rose carpets.
