A Beautiful And Artistic Vintage Flat Woven Kilim Carpet By Textile Artist Alice Kagawa Parrott, Country Of Origin / Rug Type: Vintage America Rugs, Circa Date: Vintage Mid 20th Century –  This vintage rug is the work of mid-20th-century artist, Alice Kagawa Parrott. She was a mid century Japanese American artist who spent most of her life in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was known for her tapestries and ceramic works. Her works often featured personal reflections on the passage of time and the passing of generations.

This spectacular kilim is a flat weave rug that is based on earth tones and simple geometric shapes. In this beautiful piece, artist Alice Kagawa Parrott used rectangles to divide the flat woven textile art rug into different visual sections and create vertical and horizontal lines. The width of the stripes in different sections provides a sense of texture variation, and in some cases, the sense that one section overlaps others.

The colors used are earth tones and give it a natural, organic aesthetic. Chocolate brown, camel, grays, and ivory are the dominant colors. These colors are ones that could be produced naturally by sheep and other animals without having to dye them. This deepens the sense of connection to the earth inherent in this vintage American rug.

Occasionally, the viewer gets a glimpse of sections of the vintage flat woven kilim carpet by artist Alice Kagawa Parrott,  that appear to be somewhat regularly spaced, but they are broken up by variations in width, spacing, and color. This amazing modern contemporary design is an excellent example of mid 20th-century art from an artist who dedicated her life to her craft. It harks  back to the magnificent vintage Scandinavian rugs and is a true collector’s piece that is sure would look beautiful in any earth toned home or office.
