Antique  Beshir Afghan Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – Here is a beautiful and exceptionally woven antique Oriental rug – an antique Beshir carpet that was woven in Persia during the waning years of the nineteenth century. A beautiful example, this antique Beshir Persian carpet is a testament to the enduring and timeless appeal of antique Persian rug design. Antique Beshir carpets are famed for their ability to translate classic Persian design into a more geometric or tribal idiom. This example, however, recalls the early carpets of Ottoman Turkey and Timurid Persia, with its pattern of intersecting octagons, deriving ultimately from byzantine and Early Islamic art. The various hexagonal compartments are filled with floral motifs of later type, while the various borders recall the geometric motifs of Central Asian Turkoman carpets. The palette of soft tan and cinnamon tones gives the carpet a much more flexible and decorative quality suitable to modern decor. Geometric and exciting throughout, this antique Beshir rug from Persia is a compelling and aesthetically appealing example of an important style.
