Size: 3 ft 9 in x 4 ft (1.14 m x 1.22 m)

Vintage Scandinavian Verner Panton “Checkers II” Textile, Country Of Origin: Scandinavia, Circa Date: Mid 20th CenturyVerner Panton was called a “difficult child” when he was an employee of the famous midcentury Danish architectural firm, Arne Jacobsen. He was known for using his formal design school training in the most unusual ways. Panton was known for thinking outside of the box, even within the context of the “mod” midcentury art trends that arose in the 1960s. Panton emphasized vibrant color and form to create pieces that seem to move and create fluid motion on a static canvas.

After only two years at Jacobsen’s firm, Panton broke away and formed his own design firm. He was known for focusing on creating sets that would create a certain feeling within the room. Many of the remnants of fabric that we have from this mid-20th century icon were once used to make accessories that were in a complete set that included the furniture, lighting, artwork, and other pieces that were curated for the space.

This small piece of fabric is an important piece for a collector. It is entitled “Checkers II” and features a design based on squares and a color gradient in saturated plums and pinks. The use of perspective is of interest to this piece. The artist chose to use a color scheme that moves towards the center, working from dark to light. This makes the center appear to project forward towards the viewer. It was Panton’s intention to create an immersive experience within the space. This piece moves toward the viewer, causing them to interact with it, which is exactly what the artist intended.

This textile is an excellent example of the work of a midcentury icon who defined an era with his work. The piece is a perfect example of the design and artistic concepts that he embodied. There is enough to make a small article or accessory, but it might be best-preserved as a mounted and framed piece for the wall. It is a gorgeous piece that will give your interior the perfect ultra-modern look. Of course, if your style is authentic retro or retro-inspired, this piece is an essential for the space.e
