Large Size Antique Persian Tabriz Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Early 20th Century – Tabriz carpets like this are famed for their fidelity to classical Persian forerunners. In the case of this extraordinary example the model was undoubtedly a classical Caucasian carpet, one of the so-called ‘dragon rugs’ of the seventeenth century. Here the design consists of a bold floral lattice in drop=repeat symmetry with palmettes and ‘dragons’ filling the intervening spaces. The vine-scroll border is classical Persian, however, although it harmonizes beautifully with the field. The soft palette of golden and cinnamon tones makes this a first-rate decorative carpet in a contemporary setting.
