Large and Decorative Antique Ivory Turkish Oushak Rug, Country Or Origin / Rug Type: Turkish Rugs, Circa Date: 1900 – A sunny golden hue dominates this antique Turkish Oushak rug, which bears a stylized field of flowers over a creamy color. The nearly symmetrical pattern is a regular array of yellow blossoms, detailed with darker hues to bring out their brightness. These are linked with labyrinthine, meandering stems and vines, which also bear tri-lobed leaves. A narrow band of solid orange encloses the central area, comparatively dark against the lightness within. This leads to a series of borders, each backed in varying sunset hues in keeping with the wheaten tone of the antique rug from Turkey. The widest strips contain colorful flowers, chained together by leaves and vines as part of the pattern. Blossoms similar to those in the rug’s heart stud the darkest border.
