Antique Turkish Oushak Rug, Country of Origin: Turkey, Circa Date: Early 20th Century -This rug is a wonderful example of classic Oushak weaving with large, rectilinear motifs, soft colors and an elegance that will grace any interior décor. Three stylized flowers along the centerline are surrounded by a garden assortment of flowers, leaves and vine scrolls of all sizes and varieties. Palmettes, rosettes, tulips, peonies and lotuses gracefully float on a soft tangerine background throughout the field. Cerulean blue is the dominant color for the larger flowers with highlights in complementary hues of light cocoa brown, cream and tan.
The border displays a reverse color combination, with a cerulean blue background highlighting large flowers in tangerine, cream and tans. Stylized lotuses in muted tones adorn each corner with rosettes, vine scrolls and leaves interspersed between the larger flowers. A border guard along the edge of the carpet displays bear-like figures outlined in cerulean blue and cocoa alternating with rosettes and finely worked vine scrolls. The inner border guard uses a light cream background as contrast between the main border and field with a continuous array whimsical rectilinear figures. The orange edges balance the color composition.
