Despite its small size, this dazzling antique Turkish textile is a lovely example: the quality of its drawing is apparent in the beautifully rendered golden detail work that appears throughout. Rendered in an intriguing horizontal format, this antique Ottoman textile is characterized by a series of repeating golden symbols that are arranged in a symmetrical pattern, set against the alluring red color of the carpet’s field. On the left hand and right hand portions of this textile, a line of gold divides a pair of vertical borders from the rest of the composition. In the borders, a series of four golden detail elements that complement those found in the field are stacked vertically, each separated from the other by a narrow golden border.
