Vintage Swedish Rug 45514

Size: 7 ft x 9 ft 3 in (2.13 m x 2.82 m)

Produced by the workshop of legendary master weaver Marta Maas-Fjetterstrom, this Scandinavian rug features ultra-modern motifs with elaborate saw tooth edges.

Swedish Rug, Scandinavia, Mid 20th Century – Created circa 1950, this captivating vintage Swedish Scandinavian rug features an impressive saw tooth pattern with layered motifs rendered in a chic combination of clear whites, warm maize yellows and cool platinum grays. Subtle stripes add texture to the monochromatic layers and peninsular appendages that travel across the field. Trailing groups of suspended ovoid figures decorated with mod stripes, circular seeds and undulating waves are superimposed over serrated bear claw details rendered in contrasting colors. Complementary hues of azure blue, celadon and cerise featured in the ovoid embellishments contrast the light jonquil yellows and neutrals used in the field. Simple serrated borders, which feature one of the universal flat woven patterns, enclose the field while reflecting the serrated motifs that dominate the composition.
