Gallery Size Antique Tribal Persian Malayer Rug, Country of Origin / Rug Type: Persian Rugs, Circa Date: 1900 – An elegant pattern in black and white scrolls over this antique Persian rug, which is given depth by accenting touches of earthy browns. Rows of perfectly arrayed ornaments, which are perfectly offset in alternation every other line, float over the dark background like fine lace on velvet. Almost hidden within the design of this Persian Malayer rug, pairs of birds perch around the floral ornaments, resting amid the leaves and petals rendered with artful stitches. A light and slim band, which is faintly decorated with gray slash marks, encloses the central space, leading outward to a set of matching borders. Brown line-work over ivory picks out geometric decorations that repeat regularly around the antique rug. The straight lines are dark over the papyrus-colored space, meeting at angles to form botanical shapes such as vines and leaves.
