Phenomenal Antique Persian Pictorial Kerman Rug, Origin: Persia,  Circa date: 1900 – Kerman is a city that is known for its fine rugs that reflect the artistry of the designs created for the courts of the Safavid Dynasty. These magnificent Kerman rugs are considered on par with some of the Persian rugs created in the famous cities of Tabriz and Isfahan. These pictorial rugs are highly collectible, and this specific piece has a special story to tell.

This one is a pictorial rug with a fascinating design that includes many unique characters and features. The first thing you will notice is the clothing that the people are wearing. The clothing is not that of the turn of the 20th century when the pictorial area rug was made, but the characters are wearing clothing of the Safavid Dynasty in the late 16th century.

Another fascinating feature of the rug is that it shows scenes from daily life around the border. People are tending gardens, tending animals, and carrying out other affairs of daily living. The field of the antique Persian pictorial rug seems to be directed towards royalty or nobility.

In the lower left-hand corner is a group of musicians playing traditional instruments that were typically used for entertaining the Royal Courts. You can often find depictions of them on miniature paintings from the 16th century. Many of the motifs in the art rug seem to be a compilation of famous images from various miniature paintings that have all been collected into a single piece.

The figures in the rooms on the side of the Kerman rug may be important rulers throughout history. The camel is a sign of wealth and prosperity, which gives significance to the figure placed on top. Another characteristic is the interesting double mythological creature at the top that appears to be part animal and part human with a bow and arrow, similar to a minotaur.

This pictorial Kerman rug demonstrates an impressive range of design and is carried out in beautiful colors that highlight every detail. The finely woven area rugs from Kerman are known for their exceptional beauty, and this one stands out as one of the finer pieces both for its design and choice of subject matter. This is a gorgeous piece that will be an excellent addition to any rug collection. It is a unique and fascinating piece in many ways, and it is a rare find in the world of Persian antique rugs.
