A Beautiful And Decorative Antique Persian Bibikabad Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1920 – This ethereal blue carpet represents an excellent example of the work produced in Bibikibad, Iran, during the 1920’s. The region where this antique Oriental carpet was created is in western Iran. It is comprised of hundreds of small villages, each of which has unique traditions and rug weaving style. They are considered to be a sub category of Persian Hamadan rugs and share many of the same regional characteristics.

Originally, many Hamadan rugs were on a camel hair background. By the 1920’s, they had access to more sophisticated dyes and began producing carpets with different colored backgrounds, as with the lovely blue of this example. This antique Persian Bibikabad carpet comes from a region that saw both Turkish and Persian influence throughout history.

This antique Persian rug features an all over repeating pattern based on geometric shapes reminiscent of those found on Persian tile work. It features an overflowing vase with flowers in the center of each tile. It feels bright and airy like a summer garden. The color and design of this carpet comes together in a way that creates a light and vibrant feel, like a garden full of life.

The purpose of these antique rugs was originally utilitarian, even though they are splendid in their design and artistry. This carpet has been used for the purpose for which it was created. The faded bands of color tell its history of the carpet and let you know that it was well-loved throughout its history. This gives it a rustic, almost shabby chic rug feel that will enhance any interior design that depends on mixing textures and natural elements to give the room an organic and timeless feel. The formal geometric pattern allows it to work in a contemporary room, but free flowing nature of the floral design allow it to work in a more traditional setting too. It is both beautiful and versatile.
