Rustically Beautiful Flat Woven Tribal Antique Caucasian Soumak Flat Woven Area Rug, Origin and Type: Caucasian Rugs, Date Woven: 1890’s – Three ornaments decorate this antique flat woven antique tribal design Caucasian Soumak rug, each a gentle blue within a red field. The warmth surrounds and contrasts the cool tone, anchoring each of the roughly diamond-shaped figures within the Caucasian rug’s vibrancy. Cross-shaped channels of red infiltrate the blue space, and hooks on the outer boundaries cling to the vermilion around them. Nestled at the center of each of the three ornaments, light red octagons en-wreathe four-pointed blue stars and lovely flowers in alternating colors. A multitude of floral geometric shapes, including pinwheels and linked figures, fills the space within and around the blue ornaments of this antique rug. Smaller octagons, backed in yellow, rest in pairs on each side of those shapes, flanked by smaller monuments in steely grey or brown. Amid smaller bands, a wide border full of multicolored, patterned hexagons stretches around the piece. On the outer edge, a final strip of brown wave crests contrasts with the red hue for a jagged appearance.
