Size: 5 ft x 7 ft 7 in (1.52 m x 2.31 m)

Striking Antique Caucasian Perpedil Rug, Country of Origin: Caucasian, Circa date: 1880 – The antique Caucasian Perpedil rugs get their name from the town of Perpedil in Southeast Kuba, which is located in what is now Daghestan. The alluring and artistic antique rugs of this region are known for their exceptionally durable and soft wool. They tend to have a softer feel underfoot and are known for their unique tribal designs and beautiful use of color combinations.

One of the features that makes these antique Caucasian rugs stand out is their unique use of a stylized version of the Ram’s horn symbol. The Ram’s horn is traditionally a symbol of strength. You can see this unique design in the center of this Perpedil rug along the vertical plane. They often have a dense pattern with rug symbols that are used to fill in the main design elements. Every area of the antique Caucasian rug is filled with detail and color.

The charming, tribal appearance of this rug makes it perfect for a Boho Chic room, or you could use it in a more formal setting because of its bright, high-contrast colors. These rugs were created by people who lived a pastoral, nomadic life, and today, many of them still live a more traditional lifestyle.

This gives the antique Perpedil rugs a human touch that you cannot find in modern area rugs. Each one of these Caucasian rugs is a unique creation using designs that have been handed down for centuries using oral traditions that involved singing, poetry, and storytelling. They represent the culture and history of a people living a lifestyle that is quickly disappearing.

While much of the Persian rug industry had been a thriving enterprise since the 16th century, the tribes that created these Caucasian rugs lived in a remote area and were removed from the influences that affected other designs seen in Persian rugs. They had little or no contact with the outside world until the 1870’s when the Transcaucasian Railway allowed access to the area.

This means that the designs of these antique Caucasian Perpedil rugs were unique and stood out from the more familiar Persian rug designs. As a result, collectors and interior designers fell in love with them. They still represent a unique group of area rugs and hold a special place in the world of interior design. This is a gorgeous example of using colors that will add vibrancy to any space where you decide to use it.
