Antique Persian Malayer Runner, Persia, circa 1920’s – Here is a lovely and intriguing antique Oriental rug – an antique Malayer carpet that was woven in Persia during the early part of the twentieth century. This captivating example is primarily characterized by its comely pallet of blues, oranges and ivories, as well as a mesmerizing abrash that is the result of this carpet’s age. Surrounded by a handsome orange border in which small geometric detail elements stand in procession, the first thing that one is apt to notice in this long and narrow Malayer carpet is the dazzling blue color of the field. In the field, a wonderful series of details appears, from comely floral corner pieces to impressively woven birds and trees. Compositionally, the field consists of a series of three medallions, each one resplendent with beautifully worked floral details. The shades of blue utilized in these details is the same as the blue from the field; as a result, the entire carpet has a deep sense of unity and completion. A unique work, this antique Malayer runner is an intriguing example.
