Antique Turkish Rugs — Antique Oushak, Turkey, circa 1900 The field of this highly unusual antique Oushak consists not of the customary medallions or vines, but of various border patterns arranged as parallel stripes with different colored backgrounds. The individual designs of the stripes vary considerably although all are stylized vines of some sort. The actual border of the rug, however, takes pride of place with its grand geometric vine scroll and white flowers jutting stridently across the pale purple ground. It is difficult to decide what to enjoy more, the quirky expressive drawing of the designs, or the wonderful alternations and juxtapositions of color. Together, they make this quite a little rug.
