Antique Kerman, Persia, Late 19th Century – Four lush vinescroll cornerpieces frame the lobed, quatrefoil field on this luxuriant antique Kerman. The field itself has an unusual design of tablet-like cartouches alternating in pairs with candelabra-like motifs, all amidst curling vines and tiny flowers. The dark navy ground across much of the carpet is little more than an emphatic outline for the softer, pastel tones. The various palmette vinescroll borders combine with the cornerpieces to frame the field, but maintaining a uniform palette and design texture to makes this a premier decorative carpet.
