This beautiful antique French rug combines soft grays, light browns, chocolate accents, and ivory in a beautifully arranged geometric pattern. The rich burgundy elements create contrast and move the eye through the various areas of the rug, invoking a sense of motion.

The design of this breathtaking antique French Art Deco Leleu rug, is gated using a diamond pattern that differs in orientation between the horizontal and vertical lines. The horizontal lines are accented by darker brown diamonds and alternating smaller ivory diamonds. This gives the antique Art Deco Leleu rug a sense of width. Interlacing these lines with vertical lines of a single color creates movement of the eye in two different directions. This technique can is carried out in such a way that neither the horizontal nor the vertical lines are dominant.

The motifs inside of the individual areas of this Leleu carpet are placed symmetrically. The artist, Leleu, chose only three different motifs to be used throughout the entire French art deco rug. The rectangular and square shapes are used as a point of contrast to the flowing floral shapes. The border of the French rug is small compared to the field and frames the main design nicely.

This is a beautiful example of French Art Deco design and would make an excellent addition to any retro, Art Deco, or even contemporary design scheme. The simplicity and earthy colors also make it the perfect addition to modern Scandinavian or minimalist design.
