Antique Bakshaish Rug 45116

Size: 6 ft 10 in x 9 ft (2.08 m x 2.74 m)
Origin: Persian Rugs

This antique Bakshaish rug features angular Caucasian patterns arranged in a formal and characteristically Persian style representative of the Bakshaish region.

Knotted with a handsome selection of burnt sienna, deep blue and ivory, this stately antique rug from Persia’s Bakshaish region features a delicately patterned earth-tone field decorated with a pillar of isolated quatrefoil medallions that feature torch-like pendants. Staggered medallions cut in halves and quarters line the edges of the field creating a meandering outline with abrupt angles and corners. Multiple borders decorated with intricate motifs surround the restrained field. Narrow wine cup guard bands enclose the secondary borders, which are decorated with chevron-like flowers, and primary borders, which feature a classic pattern of angular flowers interspersed with serrated leaves. The unique monochromatic frame creates a lovely layered effect as if two separate rugs were displayed together in an eclectic yet stately manner.
