Vintage Joan Miro Rug, Origin: France, Circa: Mid-20th Century – Here is an absolutely breathtaking vintage carpet – a vintage French rug featuring a composition by legendary twentieth century artist Joan Miro. One of the most uniquely talented and influential artists of the twentieth century, Miro is celebrated for his distinct, immediately recognizable style that combines elements from the abstract and surrealist movements. This particular composition beautifully showcases Miro’s thrilling aesthetic, and is an excellent example of the artist’s impressive portraits.

The general presentation is ingeniously simple; everything is so understated that there is nothing to focus on except for the portrait itself, a pair of narrow lines, and a colorful circle that occupies the lower right hand corner. Alone and out of context, these figures aren’t overly evocative of anything specific. However, evaluated together upon closer looks, one cannot help but see this composition for what it is: a self portrait of the painter at work. The simple human figure is standing upright, with one of the two black lines seemingly resting in front of it. A closer look shows that the figure may be holding the line. This combined with the colorful circle near the bottom, which is suggestive of a pallet, brings the entire composition into focus. It is in excellent condition (whoever owned it prior, had used it as a tapestry on the wall). A delightful vintage carpet featuring an impressive composition by one of the giants of twentieth century art, this piece is a genuinely awe-inspiring work of art.
