Antique Yuruk Rug from Eastern Turkey, late nineteenth century - Squares connected by thin bands create a complex intersecting lattice against a rich red field on this striking antique Yuruk from Turkey. The design is embellished further by tiny 'Memling guls' inside the squares and by diagonal serrated leaves linking them, as well as by a host of little filler motifs in the intervening spaces of the red ground. A border of geometric stars on a golden apricot ground provides an excellent frame, playing off against the design elements and coloration of the field.
