Antique Uzbek Emboidered Rug, Central Asia, early twentieth century
A traditional allover design of circular cruciform medallions in parallel rows unfolds with an animated rustic charm across the champagne ground of this antique Uzbek emboidered rug. Small hooked elements fill the areas between the medallions. A main border of fleur-de-lis enclosed by minor reciprocal borders frames the entire composition, nicely echoing the graphic effect and design of the field.
