Southwest Persian Kilim (Sofreh) from the Zagros Mountain Region, mid twentieth century
Persian tribal Kilims generally outstanding for their color and design, and, unlike many oriental rugs, they continued to be made with excellent dyes and authentic patterns and technique well into the twentieth century. This one has a largely open field with parallel zig-zag deigns, enclosed by an exquisitely detailed border-like diamond lattice design done in weft-float embroidery like the small medallion at the center of the open field. The palette of rich earth tones, ivory, green, apricot, and red is beautifully integrated with the geometric simplicity of the design. |
