Antique Bijar, early twentieth century
A large serrated medallion with an ivory outer zone and rich blue inner area hovers boldly on a natural camel field of this strikingly tribal antique Bijar. Bold highly geometricized floral forms fill the medallion. The borders too are composed of flowers whose identity is masked beneath the striking geometry of their drawing. But the real glory of the rug is the vibrant, saturated color and the lustrous wool that set the design off to such great effect.
