Inspired by the motifs and coloration of classic French Aubusson tapestry, sprays of roses in a naturalistic style repeat in staggered, diagonal rows across the rich ivory field of this elegant Bessarabian kilim. Pairs of larger roses forming linear garlands comprise the border. The contrast between the monumentality of the border and the minuscule delicacy of the field is quite distinctive, adding an element of surprise or excitement within the larger mood of graceful poise.
