Antique Balouch Rug, Afghanistan, circa 1900 - The field of this delightful little Balouch consists of vertical columns of small botehs or paisley elements in ivory and soft blue divided by barber pole guard stripes and set against a sandy golden ground. The border of linked tic-tac-toe elements is actually a highly stylized vinescroll, although it is barely discernible as such anymore. The ivory ground of the border provides a nice framing contrast and picks up the ivory effect of the botehs in the field. |
