Antique Aubusson Rug, 18th century - While most antique Aubusson tapestry carpets were designed in a formal neo-classical style with pale coloration, this lovely and unusual example has a homey design and richer palette reminiscent of French provincial folk-art. In place of the central cartouche we see a circular hex medallion. And while the border and corner bouquets have a more customary light green Aubusson flavor, the field filled with rosettes is simply extraordinary, strongly accenting the country aesthetic of this charming rug.
