How Does Repair Affect Value?
Most antique rugs will have been repaired to some extent in the course of time. The issue is not whether the rug has been repaired, but how well the repair has been done, and how extensively. Thoroughly competent repairs that are not readily or easily detectable can very much increase the value of a damaged rug. Quality repairs are certainly no cause for concern in making a purchase, unless they comprise more than a third of the rug, and even then, such extensive repair would matter more to collectors, not to buyers interested in acquiring an antique rug for decorative purposes.
