Antique Persian Tribal Gashgai Rug,  Origin: Persia, Circa: Mid-20th Century – From the multi-part borders to the ingenious Tree of Life centerpiece, this tribal Gashgai rug is a phenomenal example of the group’s stylized precision and unbridled creativity that appeal to decorators, collectors and art lovers. The central arborescent figure is framed by zigzagging brick-tone borders, slanting spandrels and secondary running-water motifs. This dramatic striped, symbol-filled frame is bound by a tremendous assortment of narrow borders featuring reciprocating botehs sandwiched between open wolf’s mouth motifs. The light, warm tones of the border and inner frame are juxtaposed sharply by the saturated celestial blue field. This elegant surface becomes a marvelous backdrop for the small-scale motifs that populate each upward-growing branch. Charming rosettes, flower-filled botehs and serrated leaflets adorn alternating limbs while giving the nature-based tree an attractive stylized appearance.
