Antique Persian Bidjar Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: Late 19th Century – Here is a beautiful and exciting antique Oriental rug – an antique Bidjar carpet that was woven in Persia during the waning years of the nineteenth century. An especially intriguing example, this comely vintage carpet beautifully and articulately communicates some of the finer points of the Bidjar style. An allover trellis pattern of rococo scrolls inspired by French Savonnerie carpets spreads dynamically across the field of this richly ornamental antique Bidjar. Within the trellis are naturalistic roses set dramatically against a black ground. The main border features an exquisitely rendered ‘turtle’ or arabesque vine-scroll that returns us the world of oriental carpets, although it suits the French-inspired field remarkably well. The rich, almost pungent palette owes nothing to the European style that inspired the field design, however. Rather, it is classically Bidjar, as is the precision of the drawing and the weave. A beautiful and exciting carpet with great possibilities, this antique Persian carpet is a stunning and highly impressive example that is sure to enhance any interior space.
