Antique Tribal Kazak Caucasian Rug, Origin: Caucasus, Circa: Early 20th Century – It would be a rare occurrence to find a more imaginative and colorful antique Kazak rug. The inner and outer secondary borders are recurring red S-hooks on ivory bands forming arabesque protective stripes. Bracketed within, the primary border consists of intricate interlocking mild blue and red barbed shafts dotted with petite ivory squares. Solid hued guard stripes interpose among the larger borders adding to the busy edges. The combined effect of the layered borders is visually compelling in its own right, but the amalgamation also effectively draws the eye within to the atypically long and rather narrow interior on this antique rug. The rich chocolate brown central field is richly adorned and edged by precise blue diamond tipped crenelations. Within, nine ornate medallions are aligned with cedar and scorpion motifs, rosettes, diamonds, hooks, and delicate stylized birds. The interior devices are colored with an appealing palette featuring vivid reds, medium blues, muted gold, and warm beige.
