Antique Caucasian Kazak Rug, Origin: Caucasus, Circa: late 19th Century – Memling guls with fretwork latch hooks and geometric stars decorate the narrow, elongated field of this formal antique Caucasian Kazak rug. Angular S-hooks, divided squares and ancient protection symbols embellish the warm brick red field of this boldly colored antique rug. Mossy green crenellated fence borders with ivory outlines create a protective barrier along the edges of the narrow field. The symbolic dragon-motif latch hook borders continue the sophisticated color scheme. The borders feature prominent ivory segments that divide the contrasting color blocks. Each layered motif creates a reciprocating latch hook pattern that maximizes the contrast between each layer. Counterchange patterns emerge from the contrasting backgrounds creating a series of reciprocating latch hook chains. Outer borders featuring contrasting S-hooks enclose the field continuing the sophisticated color palette, which includes creamy yellow, vibrant red and oxidized blue.
