Antique Persian Sarouk Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: Early Twentieth Century – Here is a beautifully composed antique Oriental rug – an antique Sarouk carpet that was woven in Persia during the early years of the twentieth century. A truly classical work, this antique Sarouk carpet features an elaborate deign that harkens back to the rich tradition of Persian rug design. The format of the carpet could not be more classical: it is divided neatly and in normal proportions into a field and border dichotomy. The border of this antique Persian carpet is almost black and color, and richly decorated with complex, traditional floral elements. Meanwhile, the field is colored a deep and rich shade of red, against which the rich splay of detail elements unfolds in a high contrast, high energy manner. Throughout the red field of the carpet, beautiful vine scrolls, flowers, and trees appear, each traditional and impeccably rendered. The way that these shapes and designs come together creates a rich dynamic quality to the carpet, which features little negative space. A beautiful and classically composed work, this antique Persian Sarouk carpet is a compelling and appealing example.
