Antique Malayer Persian Rug 43996
Sold
This elegant antique Malayer rug from Persia features an elaborate lozenge medallion with notched ends. The warm camel-colored medallion depicts a quaint Mahi pattern with angular leaves said to resemble fish. Zigzagging running water motifs and stepped borders with latch hook extensions line the edges of the angular double lozenge medallion. Ultramarine blue boteh motifs with stocky outlines decorate the corner spandrels and negative space created by the notched ends. Multiple sets of guardbands decorated with reciprocating ribbons rendered in alternating colors enclose the softly colored field and flank the ivory-colored main borders, which feature turtle-like honeycomb motifs, dainty rosettes and branching wheat sheaves. This elaborate antique Persian rug from Malayer has a bucolic presence with its angular motifs, rustic patterns and subdued earth-tone color scheme.
