Antique Khorassan, Persia, circa 1900 - The Herati design of the field on this grand antique Khorassan is so fine in scale, especially in proportion to the size, that it functions virtually as a complexly textured open field, whose design is only appreciated when we move up close to it. The border system, in opposition, consists of elegantly drawn vines and palmettes of classical Persian inspiration. Its gentle sweeping effect contrasts marvelously with the watch work precision jewelry of the field, while preserving a similar coloration.
