Antique Kazak Rug, Origin: Caucasus, Circa: Late 19th Century – Here is a beautifully woven and exemplary antique Oriental rug – an antique Kazak carpet, woven in the Caucasus during the final decades of the nineteenth century. Impeccably made, this antique Caucasian carpet beautifully showcases some of the finer points of the Kazak style – one of the more important and enduringly popular Caucasian rug styles. This handsome antique Kazak rug depicts a well-orchestrated symphony of graphic patterns and ancient symbols that are rendered in a stunning selection of clear colors. The ornate field showcases a triad of grand coffered compartments adorned with arthropodan scorpion motifs that feature latch-hook extensions and a series of divided lozenges that are used for protection against the evil eye. Intricate barber pole guard bands frame the lavish borders and the central medallions while reciprocating partial medallions make an incursion toward the center of the borders and create a charming series of zigzagging counter change figures. Beautifully colored running water motifs comprised of poly chromatic triangles complete the richly colored and beautifully composed visage of this stunning antique rug.
