Antique American Hooked Rug, zorigin: United States of America, Circa: Early part of the 20th century (around the 1920’s) – Here is a beautiful and captivating antique carpet – an antique hooked rug that was woven in the United States of America during the early part of the twentieth century. Consisting of a repeating pattern throughout, this comely American hooked rug is both simple and complex. It is simple to boil down this carpet to its constituent parts: it is made up simply of a field of tiles, nine wide by eleven long, each one designed the same as the last. These squares consist of a six-pointed star of dark brown set against a background of light brown. Within each six-pointed star is a series of three red circles, separated from one another by narrow green branchlike lines. This of course suggest some sort of berry or other vibrant vegetation. These tiles repeat throughout the entire carpet, but, as is so often the case, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts in this appealing work. The complex interactions of the tiles as well as the charming way it shows its age makes this American hooked rug an exemplary work.
