Antique Persian Serapi Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: Final Quarter of the Nineteenth Century – Here is a stunning antique Oriental rug – an antique Serapi carpet that was woven in Persia during the latter decades of the nineteenth century. Featuring the quintessentially tribal yet sophisticated qualities of the finest Serapi rugs, this example delights with its stunning red, blue and ivory pallet. A series of borders, traditionally composed, frame the piece; narrow inner and outer borders of a pale shade of blue are richly decorated, and surround the larger primary border of red that infuses the carpet with so much energy. Geometric and rectilinear figures, including vine scrolls and abstract floral elements, dance throughout this wide red border of this antique Persian carpet, filling it with life. Within the field, a similarly complex series of shapes appears, including comely ivory corner pieces These corner pieces serve as a clever segue from the borders, creating a greater contrast between the pale red of the field and the deeper red of the primary border. Within, a beautifully woven monumental medallion stands at the center, ivory on red on ivory. All throughout, rich detail elements appear infusing the carpet with a deep, rich quality that speaks to the fine pedigree of the Heriz Serapi weaving tradition.
