Finely Woven and rare Antique Silk Persian Heriz Serapi Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Late 19th Century — Here is a beautifully woven and exciting antique rug – an antique Heriz carpet, woven in Persia during the latter years of the nineteenth century. A truly exceptional example, this antique Persian carpet is characterized by a meticulously woven composition as well as a striking color pallet. Although wool Heriz carpets are generally made in the medallion format, those woven with silk pile tend to be allover designs of the type more often associated with Mahals, Kirmans, or Sarouks. On this one the field consists of a delicate filigree design of oval medallions and eight-pointed stars, along with tendril sprays, all arranged in staggered vertical columns. A beautiful vine scroll border frames and complements the delicacy of the field. The luxuriant quality of the design is all the more effective in glowing soft silk. Not only is this an extremely high quality piece, but the use of colors and design make it wonderfully decorative as well. Beautifully woven, this antique Persian silk Heriz rug is an impressive example.
