Antique Persian Tribal Gashgai Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa: Early Twentieth Century (around 1910) – Here is an exciting and beautifully woven antique Oriental rug – an antique tribal design Gashagai carpet that was woven in Persia during the early decades of the twentieth century. Generally speaking, antique rugs and carpets from Gashagai are among the more desirable of what are called Persian tribal rugs. As opposed to Persian city rugs, Persian tribal rugs are sought after and admired for their idiosyncratic design elements, which, rather than the staid sophistication of their counterparts, impart a sense of cultural verisimilitude. In this particular example, a multitude of exciting abstract, traditionally tribal design elements appear throughout the field. The field itself is colored a bright shade of ivory, against which the myriad of traditional symbols stand out beautifully. A unique and exciting example of an important antique rug weaving style, this antique tribal Gashgai Persian rug delightfully communicates the aesthetic appeal of tribal weaving.
