Antique Bidjar Carpet, Origin: Persia, Circa: 1900 -Hand woven by the superb craftspeople of the villages of Kurdistan, Bidjar rugs are renown as the epitome of the classical tradition of Persian carpet making. And with its striking design, this one is a particularly handsome example of its kind. Rectangular in shape, it features an profusely decorated red field that surrounds the bold central elongated medallion. The navy blue and black tones of the medallion are beautifully accented by two richly ornamented guard-bands. The inner guard-band is highlighted in gold and the outer in white, and both contain daintily curlicue-d flowers. The main motif is subtly asymmetrical and features a repeating design of highly stylized leaves and flowers accompanied by abstract geometric patterns that alternate between angular shapes and floral accents. The wonderfully luxurious rose red backdrop brings everything together and creates a rich overall effect that perfectly suits the thick, heavy construction for which these “iron rugs” are justly famous. This very special rug has an added decorative piece at one end that shows the rug was commissioned or has been made specially for a happy ceremonial occasion such as a wedding or engagement. The rug is hand knotted with natural dyes.
