Aubusson, France, Late 19th Century - Woven on the tapestry looms of Aubusson, this neoclassical French rug features an architectural frame and acanthus leaf scroll-work with the addition of clusters of cabbage roses in the corners and central cartouches. Although the carpet features many baroque and continental design elements, the earthy color palette is not completely rococo. The rich color scheme, which can be seen in the distinct color change to cocoa-brown in the border, gives this fine Aubusson carpet a stately appearance.
