Vintage Moroccan, Morocco, 20th Century - A vibrant and extraordinary Moroccan mat. Deep crimson gradiates into sanguine hues, giving life to the ashen Moroccan designs that reach into the red skies. This rug would have been a great prize amongst others in Morocco, as vibrant red dyes were exceedingly rare in the Muslim world, second only to Indigo and blue-colored dyes. Gentle peach-colored stripes subtly cut through the violently brilliant red color. The thick, black stain resembles mysterious shadows cast by a scorching desert sun. Who knew the blazing red sun of North Africa could be so perfectly replicated on a rug?
