43859 Antique Sarouk Farahan, Persia, late nineteenth century.
A richly articulated round, multi-lobed medallion floats amidst a cream ground on this exquisite antique Farahan Sarouk. Elaborate cornerpieces in apricot with arabesque detail round out the field, echoing the interior of the medallion. Exuberant flowering vine spays sprawl across the intervening cream area balancing the complexity of the medallion and cornerpieces. A finely drawn cartouche border frames the entire composition with just the right contrast of color and scale.
