Bessarabian Rug 43629
Bessarabian Kilim, Romania, Late 19th Century - This reserved, elegant antique Karabagh has a design inspired by French Aubusson carpets. A grand, fan-like oval medallion surrounded by a floral garland dominates the field. At its center is a smaller medallion of lotus flowers with a laurel wreath at its center. A spare array of flowers floats amidst the open aubergine ground, with entwined figure-eight grapevines in horizontal panels at either end of the rug. A simple narrow band serves as border, underscoring the aura of cool, classical restraint.
