Antique Amritsar, India, circa 1900. The splendor of the Mogul Dynasty is alive and well on this sumptuous antique Indian Amritsar. Like the great Mogul court classical Persian inspiration, although combined with more exotic, native Indian plant motifs as well. The palmette and cloudband border reverses the gold and ivory palette of the field for framing contrast, yet preserving its scale for a unified decorative effect. What is not classical Indian or Persian is the palette, with its soft, luminous, decorative coloration in place of the more vibrant, pungent color typical of Mogul carpets.
