Antique Sultanabad Rug, Persia, Late 19th Century - Woven in the late 19th century, this sophisticated carpet from Sultanabad features a luminous walnut brown field decorated with an all-over Mina Khani-style arabesque. Pronounced palmettes linked by dramatically recurved vinescrolls form an impressive all-over pattern across the field. Multiple sets of highly detailed guardbands support the wide terra cotta red borders decorated with bifurcated saz leaf sheaths and reciprocating palmettes.
