Antique Sultanabad Persian Rugs 44989
Antique Sultanabad Rug, Persia, circa 1900 - This unique piece is decorated with a striking combination of curvilinear vinescrolls and angular boteh motifs woven in a combination of warm colors that are counterbalanced by the dark and subtly abrashed field. Boteh-motif inner borders and narrow camel brown guardbands decorated with reciprocating floral vinescrolls complement the neutral tones used throughout the elegant field. Sinuous vinescroll quatrefoils featuring polychromatic shading link the ornate rosettes and palmette medallions that dominate the composition. Strongly recurving vinescrolls decorated with superfluous floral details and golden-yellow saz-leaf motifs form a series of dramatic spirals across the midnight blue field. Woven during the turn of the 20th century, this exquisite antique Persian rug features an unusual asymmetric composition and a warm Mediterranean color scheme reminiscent of weavings from Anatolia.
