Antique Serab, Persia, late nineteenth centuryA boldly graphic design of linked hexagonal medallions in soft blue repeats across the soft tan open field of this striking antique Serab runner from Persia. Approximately similar half medallions fill the intervening spaces between the medallions. The edges of all these components are embellished with crenellations in gold. Although they pose a contrast in scale, the simple, narrow vinescroll borders repeat this color contrast of gold and soft blue, thereby giving the entire rug a strong decorative unity.
